Carbon Hosting Acceptable Use Policy

Document date: 2026-10-15

Version date: 2026-10-15

About this policy

This policy sets the conduct rules for accounts and for the servers hosted on the Carbon Hosting platform. It is part of the Carbon Hosting legal documents, together with the Terms of Service, the Privacy Policy, the cookie notice, and the DMCA policy. Violations of this policy are handled under this policy and under the Termination chapter of the Terms of Service.

Account conduct

You provide accurate information when you create your account, and you keep it accurate. You are the client: the person and billing identity behind the account, exactly as the Terms of Service define it.

Keep your account credentials secure. You are responsible for the activity that happens under your account and on the account's servers.

Your server's limits

Each plan carries the fixed limits it is sold with: a fixed memory allocation, a storage quota, and a CPU share, shown at checkout and on the plan page. The platform enforces those limits per server through its own controls: per-server CPU limits and the plan's memory allocation, with resource usage measured per server.

Some server types carry an additional network allocation. For those types, the platform provisions that second allocation automatically at purchase and on every switch into those types, as shown on the product page.

Your plan includes backup capacity, as shown on the plan page.

Enforcement of this policy typically relies on what the platform's own controls show, meaning resource usage measured against the plan limits, and on reports made under this policy: abuse reports made under this policy, and copyright notices handled under the DMCA policy.

Prohibited use

The classes below cover both content and conduct.

Illegal content and illegal use. Content stored or served through a rented server, or use of the service, that is illegal under the laws of the United States and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is prohibited. Using the service to break the law or to harm others is prohibited as well.

Child sexual abuse material. Zero tolerance. Hosting, storing, or distributing child sexual abuse material is never tolerated in any form, and the operator may act immediately and without warning where it is found. The operator also complies with applicable United States reporting law for such material.

Malware and attack hosting. Hosting or distributing malware, running attack tools, operating command-and-control infrastructure, or using a server to attack other systems or other people, including denial-of-service attacks, is prohibited.

Spam and fraud. Phishing pages, scams, deceptive sites, and bulk unsolicited mail sent through the platform are prohibited.

Harassment. Using a hosted server to harass, threaten, stalk, or expose private information about people is prohibited.

Intellectual property violations. Copyright infringement in hosted content is handled under the Carbon Hosting DMCA policy, which is part of these legal documents. Infringement of other protected rights, such as trademark, in hosted content is not allowed, and is handled under this policy.

Cryptocurrency mining. Mining on a rented server in a way that consumes resources beyond the plan's share, or that degrades the platform or the service other clients receive, is resource abuse, handled consistently with the plan limits this policy describes.

Circumvention of platform controls. Working around or evading the platform's limits, allocations, security controls, or enforcement actions is prohibited.

Minecraft servers and Mojang's rules

A client who hosts a Minecraft server is responsible for that server's compliance with Mojang's Minecraft End User License Agreement, the agreement Mojang Studios publishes for Minecraft. Compliance with that agreement is the client's responsibility as the server operator. EULA violations can be handled under this policy's enforcement ladder.

Enforcement

Payment-related enforcement. Enforcement around payments is exactly as the Terms of Service provide: non-payment follows clause 2.9 of the terms, and payment disputes follow clause 2.11 of the terms. This policy restates no payment enforcement ladder and renumbers nothing from the terms.

Conduct enforcement. For conduct that violates this policy, the steps are:

(a) A warning: the client is informed by email or through the client area, with what the conduct is and what is expected to fix it.

(b) A suspension: access to the server or the account stops until the matter is resolved, and the client is informed of the action and the reason by email or through the client area.

(c) Termination for cause: under the Termination chapter of the Terms of Service, the account and its servers end, and the client is informed of the action and the reason by email or through the client area.

Immediate action, without a warning first, is available for severe violations: child sexual abuse material, malware and attack hosting, illegal content, or abuse attacking the platform itself.

No fixed cure periods are set between the steps, where one applies at all: the operator acts based on the severity of the conduct, and no day count is promised anywhere in this policy.

Scope of this chapter. Conduct enforcement is handled under this policy and under the Termination chapter of the Terms of Service, and that is where enforcement ends: this policy sets no consequence of its own for a termination for cause and no data-retention outcome for it. How long data is kept when the service ends is governed by the Privacy Policy's retention table, which governs the retention mechanics that exist as of these documents.
