Billing cycles: the math, shown
Account and billingHosting prices by the month at a base rate, and the longer cycles discount that base: quarterly is 10 percent off, semi-annual is 15 percent off, and annual is 20 percent off. This page shows that math exactly, badge by badge, and works one tier through all three longer cycles.
The four cycles
- Monthly: the base price. Every tier prices at RAM x 2.75 per month, and that monthly figure is the base every other cycle discounts.
- Quarterly: 10 percent off the monthly base.
- Semi-annual: 15 percent off the monthly base.
- Annual: 20 percent off the monthly base.
Every badge states its comparison base, so nobody re-derives the math in the dark: a badge on a price card tells you what its discount is a discount from.
The rate underneath
One rate runs the whole ladder: each tier's monthly price is RAM x 2.75, with no rounding needed anywhere, and the cycle percentages come off that exact base. The worked base of this page is Peak: 8 GB, 22.00 per month. The full tier list with every price prints in the costs article and on the plans page; this page does not relist it.
Totals and the per-month figure
Each longer cycle carries two readable numbers: the total for the whole cycle, and the figure it works out to per month. Both come from the same three inputs: the months, the monthly base, and the badge's percent. The per-month figure exists so the cycles compare cleanly against the monthly base; the total exists so the cycle's full price prints in one number nobody has to multiply out.
The math, worked on Peak
- Quarterly: 3 x 22.00 x 0.90 = 59.40 total, which is 19.80 per month.
- Semi-annual: 6 x 22.00 x 0.85 = 112.20 total, which is 18.70 per month.
- Annual: 12 x 22.00 x 0.80 = 211.20 total, which is 17.60 per month.
Every line reads the same way: months, times the monthly base, times the badge's percent, gives the cycle's total, and the total divided by the months gives the per-month figure. The live sheet prints on the plans page with the cycle switch on the cards, and the numbers it carries are the numbers these lines carry.
What this page is, and is not
This page explains pricing facts: the base, the three cycle discounts, and one worked example. It is not a walk through buying: nothing here steps into a checkout, because an explainer's job is the math, not a purchase. The one example is the whole set of examples here: Peak is the tier the published examples work through, and this page computes nothing for any other tier.
